Today, EU Member States agreed to the European Commissions proposal to introduce trade measures against the United States.
This proposal responds to the USs March decision to impose tariffs on EU steel and aluminium imports.
The EU views these tariffs as unjustified and harmful, impacting both economies and the global market. The EU prefers negotiated solutions with the US that are fair and beneficial to both parties.
The approval by Member States means countermeasures will take effect once the Commission completes its procedures and the act is published, with duties starting on 15 April.
These measures can be halted if the US agrees to a fair and balanced negotiation.
