At the EU-China Summit in Beijing, the following joint press statement was agreed:
The Way Forward After the 10th Anniversary
Of the Adoption of the Paris Agreement
On the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the EU, the leaders of both sides:
Reaffirm the need for major economies to ensure policy continuity and stability amidst todays turbulent global situation, and to intensify efforts against climate change;
Highlight that enhancing China-EU cooperation on climate change is crucial for the welfare of both peoples and is significant for multilateralism and global climate governance;
Stress that the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement are essential for international climate cooperation, with all parties expected to follow the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities based on their national circumstances, ensuring effective implementation of these agreements;
Acknowledge that the China-EU green partnership is vital to their collaboration, with green cooperation as a defining characteristic and ample opportunity for joint efforts in green transition.
The two sides commit to jointly lead a global just transition in sustainable development and poverty eradication by:
1. Upholding the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreements central role and fully implementing their goals and principles;
2. Taking results-oriented actions to translate climate targets into tangible outcomes through systematic policies;
3. Collaborating with all parties to support Brazil in hosting a successful COP30 and promoting ambitious and inclusive outcomes;
4. Accelerating renewable energy deployment and ensuring access to affordable green technologies for all countries, especially developing ones;
5. Enhancing adaptation efforts to facilitate swift action at all levels;
6. Submitting their 2035 NDCs before COP30, covering all economic sectors aligned with the Paris Agreements long-term temperature goal; and
7. Boosting bilateral cooperation in energy transition, adaptation, methane management, carbon markets, and green technologies to foster their green transitions.
