The committee for Justice and Security will debate on Thursday, March 27, about gambling. Members of Parliament will discuss this with State Secretary for Legal Protection Teun Struycken. The debate can be followed from 2:00 PM via the livestream on this website and Debat Direct.
The evaluation of the Gambling Act is currently with the House of Representatives. In February, the State Secretary wrote a letter to the House about how he intends to shape gambling policy. He also describes the measures he is taking regarding remote gambling. Central is that the measures contribute to my key point, that citizens, especially minors and young adults, are well protected against the risks of gambling, said the State Secretary.
Round Table Discussion
In preparation for the debate, the committee held a round table discussion on Wednesday, March 19, about this topic. The goal of the discussion was to inform Members of Parliament from various perspectives about gambling. What parties are there and what are the possible risks? Can these risks be mitigated, and if so, how? And what is the role of the government and the industry in this? Members of Parliament engaged with the guests on these questions. The differences between online, land-based, and high- and low-risk gambling were also discussed.
