On Wednesday, April 2, starting at 10:15 AM, the House of Representatives will hold a debate on the unity of cabinet policy regarding the signing of five nominations for royal decorations with Minister Marjolein Faber of Asylum and Migration.
Faber does not want to sign the nomination of five people for a ribbon on Kings Day. These volunteers are eligible for the royal decoration due to their efforts in asylum seeker reception. This work does not support asylum policy, the minister stated.
Receiving the Decoration
Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Minister Judith Uitermark of the Interior then announced that they would sign the nominations. As a result, the volunteers can still receive the royal decoration.
Unity of Cabinet Policy
The House of Representatives wants to know how the different actions can be reconciled with the unity of cabinet policy. According to the Constitution and the rules of the Council of Ministers, ministers must speak with one voice. During the question hour on Tuesday, April 1, a majority of the House supported the proposal to hold a debate on this issue.
