The House of Representatives will debate on Wednesday, May 21, about the bankruptcy of the commercial general practitioner chain Co-Med and its consequences. Minister Fleur Agema of Health, Welfare and Sport will come to the House for this. You can follow the debate from 1:45 PM via the livestream and the Debat Direct app.
The commercial chain went bankrupt last July. Health insurers had terminated their contracts with Co-Med, resulting in no money coming in. According to the insurers, the general practitioner practices of Co-Med were not easily accessible, creating risks for patients. Over 50,000 people were patients at a Co-Med general practitioner practice.
Timeline
Minister Agema sent a timeline to the House in April, outlining all events in this matter. She reports, among other things, that the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) and health insurer CZ have now found structural solutions for almost all former patients. This means that a structural solution has been found for over 33,100 of the approximately 38,000 patients. In Enschede, a temporary solution has been found for a group of 4,900 patients and work is underway on a structural solution.
Private financing
Agema sent a letter to the House on March 5, outlining her position on the role of private financing in healthcare.
