The House of Representatives will debate on Wednesday, April 16, about the problems at the UWV. Eddy van Hijum, Minister of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW), will come to the Chamber. The plenary debate can be followed live via this website and the Debat Direct app, starting at 10:15 AM. There will be live subtitles.
The debate was requested by Member of Parliament Don Ceder (Christian Union) during the work arrangement on November 19. That week it was announced that the UWV made mistakes regarding the Wajong benefit. Earlier that year, the Chamber already debated about the incorrect calculations of WIA benefits by the UWV. During the work arrangement on March 18, it was decided to broaden the debate to all problems known at the UWV.
Improvement Approach
Minister Van Hijum sent a letter to the Chamber last month about the progress of the improvements at the UWV. The UWV is trying to do justice to the balance between carefulness and speed in its approach. And to do this as much as possible in contact with the people involved. Their interest is always the benchmark in the choices that need to be made, he writes among other things to the Chamber.
People Central
Putting people at the center. Promptly and carefully. Those are my central principles in the approach to this correction operation, the minister stated in the letter. The UWV is working hard on an approach that responds to those principles. Step by step, it zooms in on where the mistakes actually lie and how they need to be corrected while preventing new mistakes from occurring.
