The Public Prosecution Service (OM) can impose a penalty for common criminal offenses itself. It wants to do this more often to handle more cases. The Justice and Security Committee will debate this on Tuesday, April 8 with Minister David van Weel of Justice and Security. You can follow the debate live from 5:00 PM.
In February, the OM announced that it wants to use the penal order more often. It aims not only to handle cases faster but also to process more cases criminally. According to the OM, victims are also helped when cases are quickly addressed and resolved, their damage is compensated, and they are spared a longer legal process.
Compensation
Together with victim organizations, the OM wants to develop a guide for simple damage cases. Standard compensation amounts can be included in it. This way, the victim is not burdened with providing evidence for damages.
Round Table Discussion
The Justice and Security Committees of the House of Representatives recently organized a round table discussion on this plan with representatives of the police, judiciary, legal profession, and the OM. Based on this, the OM slightly adjusted the plan, the minister writes in a letter dated April 3 to the House of Representatives.
