Commemoration of Fallen and Victims during World War II in Former Dutch East Indies

The Chairman of the Senate, Jan Anthonie Bruijn, and the Chairman of the House of Representatives, Martin Bosma, will lay a wreath at the Indonesian plaque in the Statenpassage in the House of Representatives building on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

The commemoration will begin at 11:00 AM with a speech by the chairman of the National Commemoration Foundation August 15, 1945, Thom de Graaf. Following that, House Chairman Martin Bosma will speak. Next, Mr. Silfraire Delhaye, a representative of the Indo-Moluccan and Chinese community. After the speeches, the chairmen and the chairman of the foundation will lay a wreath, followed by a minute of silence.

Japan capitulated on August 15, 1945. This marked the end of World War II for Southeast Asia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Annually, on August 14, the National Commemoration Foundation August 15, 1945 organizes a commemoration at the Indonesian plaque in the presence of the Chairmen of both Chambers, Members of Parliament, and representatives of the Indo-Moluccan community. This bronze plaque was unveiled on August 15, 1985, in memory of all victims of World War II in the former Dutch East Indies.

National Commemoration

On Friday, August 15, 2025, the national commemoration will take place at the Indonesian Monument in The Hague, organized by the National Commemoration Foundation August 15, 1945. The Chairmen of the Senate and House of Representatives will also lay a wreath that day in memory of the fallen.

The commemoration will take place on Thursday, August 14, from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM in the Statenpassage in the House of Representatives building.
