The House of Representatives commemorated Pope Francis on Tuesday, May 13. The head of state of Vatican City passed away on April 21 at the age of 88.
The commemoration took place in the presence of Monsignor Jan Thomas Limchua, the representative of Vatican City in the Netherlands. In the twelve years that Pope Francis led the church, he prominently brought his background into his papacy. Shaped by his experience in the slums of Buenos Aires, he consistently spoke about the dignity of every person, said Speaker of the House Martin Bosma. The Speaker recalled his rejection of outward appearances. Instead of the papal apartment, he chose a simpler residence. He drove modest cars and wore ordinary shoes. My people are poor and I am one of them, he declared his way of life. After Bosma, Deputy Prime Minister Fleur Agema delivered a commemorative speech on behalf of the government.
