On August 14, the House of Representatives commemorates all victims of World War II in the former Dutch East Indies.
House of Representatives Chairman Martin Bosma will lay a wreath at the Indonesian plaque in the House of Representatives building on Thursday, August 14, together with the Chairman of the Senate, Jan Anthonie Bruijn. Every year on August 14, the Foundation Commemoration August 15, 1945 organizes a short private commemoration. The Chairmen of both Chambers, Members of Parliament, and representatives of involved organizations are present. The ceremony takes place at the Indonesian plaque in the House of Representatives building.
Temporary Housing
This memorial monument in memory of all victims of World War II in the former Dutch East Indies was unveiled on August 15, 1985. The plaque is now located in the hall of the temporary housing of the House of Representatives on Bezuidenhoutseweg. When the renovation of the Binnenhof is completed, the plaque will return to its familiar place.
Speeches
The chairman of the National Commemoration Foundation August 15, 1945, Thom de Graaf, will give a speech during the ceremony. Also, Chairman Martin Bosma will speak a commemorative word. Finally, there will be a speech by Silfraire Delhaye, representing the Indo-Moluccan and Chinese community.
Indonesian Monument
The Chairmen of the House of Representatives and Senate will be present a day later at the annual national commemoration. They will jointly lay a wreath on behalf of the States General in memory of the fallen. The ceremony on August 15 takes place at the Indonesian Monument in The Hague. The event will conclude with a parade past the monument.
