The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed parliament in the plenary hall of the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon, June 24. Zelensky thanked the Netherlands for its support in Ukraines struggle: Thank you for helping us towards peace.
The president is in The Hague for the NATO summit. The House of Representatives invited him. Chairperson Martin Bosma introduced Zelensky: Moments like these are important to cherish and underscore the importance of freedom. Thank you for making time in your busy schedule. The Ukrainian president then thanked the Netherlands for all the assistance, the air defense, for every decision that saves lives in Ukraine.
Third Speech
This was the third time President Zelensky addressed members of the House of Representatives. On March 31, 2022, he was the first foreign leader to do so during a plenary session. A year earlier, the House changed its Rules of Procedure to make this possible. This speech took place via video link. On May 4, 2023, Zelensky addressed the States General in the Senate.
Agenda Changed
The agenda of the House has been changed for this occasion. The question hour has been canceled, the votes and the arrangement of work have been postponed by one day. The swearing-in of two members of parliament has also been moved to Wednesday, June 25.
