The House of Representatives returns from summer recess on Thursday, July 10. Speaker Martin Bosma has summoned the members to hold votes. These votes concern whether the House feels sufficiently informed about the incidental supplementary budgets of the Ministries of Economic Affairs and Defence. The votes will be live-streamed from 2:00 PM on this website and the Debat Direct app.
A supplementary budget is a legislative proposal to amend the current budget. Previously, the committees for Economic Affairs and Defence have already indicated that they feel sufficiently informed about the supplementary budgets submitted regarding business support. In a letter, they ask the House to express its opinion as a whole. This will happen on Thursday, July 10.
Entering Obligations
If the House determines that it has been adequately informed, the Ministers of Economic Affairs and Defence can lawfully enter into the obligations arising from these budgets. The House will not discuss the proposed changes substantively now; that will follow after the recess.
Back from Recess
During a recess, there are generally no meetings in the House. However, members of the House continue to follow current events, and it is always possible to hold a debate or votes during the recess. If a majority of the House finds it important to discuss a topic with the government as soon as possible, a recess debate can be scheduled. Read more about debating during the recess.
