Do you want to see the blue parliamentary seats in real life? The House of Representatives will open its doors to everyone on Saturday, September 13, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Children, youth, and adults can participate in a wide range of activities. Learn all about the duties of the House of Representatives, join one of the democratic tours, visit the plenary hall, talk to members of parliament and parliamentary officials, take a seat selfie, participate in a treasure hunt, craft a parliamentary artwork, and join the quiz.

Activities

Democratic Tours

No tour on this open day is the same. Together with your group, you decide which direction to go based on each democratic decision. You will learn about the House of Representatives, democracy, the building, history, and art. Tours will take place throughout the day and will be led by someone who works at the House of Representatives.

Art and History Route

Visitors who prefer to walk around on their own can follow a route themed around art/culture/architecture and history. Based on images, paintings, and other features, you will be guided through the building. Meanwhile, you can answer questions and hear various interesting facts.

Second Table

What is it like to work at the House of Representatives? In the Statenlokaal, at the Second Table, members of parliament and parliamentary officials are ready to discuss this over a cup of coffee or tea.

Democracy Suitcase

In the Statenpassage, there is a large plexiglass suitcase. Here you can drop notes with questions, thoughts, and opinions about democracy. In the weeks following the open day, some of the submissions will be highlighted, answered, or explained on the social media channels of the House of Representatives.

The Is that allowed? Democracy Quiz

Join the quiz about laws and regulations in the Netherlands. About what is allowed and what is not, and why. This way, you will discover interactively why we have those laws and regulations, in which situations they arise, and when they may contradict each other.

Childrens Activities

There are special activities for children. There is a treasure hunt, they can craft their own parliamentary artwork, or make a paper Prinsjesdag hat. There is also a puppet theater where a performance about the House of Representatives will be presented.

Practical Information

The entrance to the House of Representatives is at Prinses Irenepad 1. This is a two-minute walk from The Hague Central. There is also a (free) shuttle bus between the House of Representatives and the Hofvijver (intersection Lange Vijverberg and Korte Vijverberg). Registration for the open day is not necessary. Visitors aged 14 and over must show a valid ID after the security check.

The open day takes place during the Week of the Rule of Law, which runs from Tuesday, September 9, to Tuesday, September 16.
