BOAs and police officers in uniform must perform their duties neutrally and impartially. Visible expressions of religious or personal beliefs simply do not fit into this. Because when enforcing the law, everyone must be able to trust that it is done without prejudice.
Until now, municipalities could decide for themselves whether visible religious expressions were allowed with the BOA uniform. Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel therefore establishes that just like the police uniform, the BOA uniform must also be neutral. This way, the uniform radiates the same neutrality everywhere and there is no doubt about the impartiality of enforcers.
