The housing market is stuck, we all feel it. Young people are living at home longer, starters are postponing their future, and seniors are closing off rooms because there are no suitable homes nearby. Everyone knows someone who is waiting. According to the VVD, this must change.
With our housing vision, we want to increase the affordable housing supply. We do this by, among other things, building more, re-evaluating home ownership, and freeing up the rental market.
Starters and middle-income groups in the housing market deserve more support in finding a home to buy, by:
- Building significantly more. At least 25-30% should not cost more than about €400,000. We will legally establish this.
- Giving starters more borrowing capacity, with help through a government fund.
- Lower costs thanks to longer terms.
- Keeping the mortgage interest deduction in place.
- Making the savings amount above the mortgage tax-free up to €75,000.
- Allowing tax-free gifts again.
- Creating opportunities to buy your social rental home.
- Not counting student debt in the mortgage calculation anymore.
We need to make choices now to get the housing market moving again. Read here the plans of Member of Parliament Peter de Groot.
