Today is Accountability Day: the moment when the cabinet shows where our tax money is being spent. According to Minister of Finance Eelco Heinen, politics often revolves around spending money, but too little about accountability. This money comes from hard-working Dutch people and entrepreneurs. We must handle it wisely and carefully.
Eelco focuses on strict financial policy. We do not pass on bills to the future, as this ultimately leads to higher taxes for families and entrepreneurs. Money is not free; it must first be earned. It starts with a strong economy where entrepreneurs have the space to grow. Only then can we increase our prosperity and continue to invest in safety and freedom.
Although the Netherlands is financially doing well, we should not count ourselves rich. Many expenses have been postponed, and the national debt is rising. Meanwhile, the Dutch feel the high inflation directly in their wallets. Therefore, responsible financial policy is more important than ever. Not as a goal in itself, but to be prepared for future financial shocks. So that in times of crisis, such as during corona or a recession, we can support families and entrepreneurs.
Only with healthy financial policy can we keep the Netherlands safe, free, and prosperous.
