Livestock farmers and individuals in Drenthe are making full use of the subsidy scheme for wolf-resistant fencing. Since its launch in 2021, over 3.2 million euros in subsidies have been granted. A total of 634 subsidies have been awarded.
Notably, 2025 is already the year with the most subsidies ever granted. By July 11, over 1 million euros in subsidies have been granted. This year, 174 subsidies have already been awarded. The province has increased the subsidy ceiling for this year to 1,665,000 euros to meet the high demand.
An overview of the granted subsidies per year:
Year | Subsidy Amount | Number of Subsidies |
---|---|---|
2021 | € 110,000 | 25 |
2022 | € 490,000 | 80 |
2023 | € 970,000 | 240 |
2024 | € 592,692 | 115 |
2025 | € 1,072,057 | 174 |
The likely cause of the increase in the number of subsidy applications is the new subsidy scheme that was opened on March 18 of this year and has received much attention. To apply for a subsidy under the new scheme, advice from one of the wolf consultants is mandatory. Almost 600 applications for fence advice have been received.
