The province of Drenthe asks boat owners to keep the waterways free during the winter period - from October 1 to April 30. During these months, bridges and locks are not operated, and recreational navigation is closed. Therefore, it is important that no (recreational) boats remain without permission.

Why is this important?

By keeping the waterways clear, the province can safely and efficiently carry out maintenance on bridges, locks, and banks. Moreover, this prevents boats from being damaged by ice formation or stormy weather. Together, we ensure well-maintained and safe waterways.

What happens if a boat remains?

If a boat remains without permission, the province will first place a notice on the vessel. The owner then has two weeks to remove the boat or provide a valid reason. If this does not happen, a fine will follow for each week the boat remains. If the owner is unknown, the boat will be removed.

Together we keep the waterways in good condition

Will you help? By removing your boat from the water on time, you contribute to the preservation and safety of the Drenthe waterways.
