Yesterday, a new step was taken in the collaboration around the Safety Campus Assen of the University of the North. The Ministry of Defense, Province of Drenthe, knowledge institutions, and Municipality of Assen have formalized this cooperation by unveiling the new logo of the Safety Campus and presenting it to State Secretary Tuinman of Defense. Mare Riemersma, member of the executive board of DCTerra, handed over the logo on behalf of the partners DCTerra/DNA, NHL Stenden, the University of Groningen, and Municipality of Assen. This logo will also be placed on the grounds of the Johan Willem Frisokazerne, definitively confirming the location of the Safety Campus Assen on the barracks terrain.
Spatial and Content Collaboration
Defense, Municipality of Assen, and Province of Drenthe are jointly working on the spatial integration of the Safety Campus at the Johan Willem Frisokazerne. Defense aims to organize the national resilience training on the barracks terrain. In addition to education, the research center, and the international crisis room, the reservist center will also be located on the site. The integration of all these activities will be further developed in the first half of 2026. Next year, various activities will also be organized by Defense and the Safety Campus at the Johan Willem Frisokazerne, such as joint exercises, educational activities, and conferences. Besides developments around the Safety Campus, Defense, Province of Drenthe, the Drenthe municipalities, and industry organizations are also intensifying discussions to establish close cooperation between Defense and the Drenthe SMEs.
