On November 5, 2025, the Drenthe Parliament decided to recommend Agnes Mulder to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations as the new Kings Commissioner of Drenthe.
Agnes Mulder is the expected successor of Jetta Klijnsma, who will step down at the end of this month. During an extraordinary Provincial Council meeting, the Drenthe Parliament decided to recommend Agnes Mulder. This decision is based on a proposal from the confidential committee. Chairman of the confidential committee Jan Brouwer said: “Agnes Mulder is someone with broad administrative experience. Her network extends from The Hague to Northern Netherlands and also includes the business community. A connector with an eye and heart for the Drenthe society.”

Agnes Mulder, 52 years old, lives in Assen and is currently director of VNO-NCW MKB Noord. Previously, she was a member of the House of Representatives for the CDA from 2012 to 2023. In Drenthe, she was a Provincial Council member from 2003 to 2010.
Procedure
After the announcement of Jetta Klijnsmas departure, the profile sketch was established during the Provincial Council meeting on July 8, 2025. The confidential committee supervised the recruitment of a new commissioner. The profile sketch was leading in the conducted interviews.
Following the recommendation of the Drenthe Parliament, the minister will submit the nomination to the King for appointment. The new commissioner will then be appointed by Royal Decree for a period of six years.
