Province of Drenthe has advised the municipalities of De Wolden and Westerveld to urgently call on visitors to the Dwingelderveld not to enter the area with dogs. Province of Drenthe is responsible for protecting wolves, preventing and compensating damage to livestock caused by wolves, and permits. Municipalities are responsible for public order and safety.

The reason is recent situations where a wolf came too close, showed great interest in dogs, and actively sought them out. This happened near Ansen and on the other side, near Spier.
