The partners of the Agenda for the Veenkoloniën and Innovation Veenkoloniën signed the letter of intent today. This officially marks the start of the Area Program Veenkoloniën. The program is the practical implementation of the area plan ‘A feasible map’ and focuses on future-proof agriculture with sustainable earning capacity.

Deputy Gert-Jan Schuinder, chairman of the Agenda for the Veenkoloniën:

“This area program shows that we do not just keep talking, but choose to act: with practical projects, clear monitoring, and cooperation that makes agriculture in the Veenkoloniën future-proof.”

Area Program Veenkoloniën

The area program runs for five years and consists of three program lines: Future-proof cultivation plan, Targeting & monitoring, and Rural area. Concrete projects are underway, such as research and practical trials around the cultivation plan of the future, measurements and a dashboard for monitoring, and measures for water, soil, and green-blue services.

Collaboration for the peat colony area

The Agenda for the Veenkoloniën is a collaboration of the provinces Groningen and Drenthe, municipalities in the area, and the water boards Hunze and Aa’s and Vechtstromen. Innovation Veenkoloniën is a cooperation of chain and knowledge partners, including Avebe, Cosun, Agrifirm, Wageningen Research, and LTO Noord.
