The nominees for The Compliment of Drenthe 2025 have been announced. This award is intended for volunteer groups that make a special effort for their community. In 2025, the focus is on initiatives where young people play a central role. An independent jury selected five inspiring Drenthe initiatives as candidates. From October 20 to November 2, everyone can support their favorite initiative via the website of the Province of Drenthe: The Compliment of Drenthe | Social Agenda 2024-2029 (refers to another website).
From more than 50 registrations, an independent jury selected five inspiring volunteer initiatives. The jury of 2025 consists of Erik Giethoorn (chairman), Erna van der Molen, Rick Horst, Harold Kamps, and Lotte Folkersma. Jury chairman Giethoorn: “The diversity and broad reach of the activities show how important volunteer work is. All Drenthe volunteers deserve appreciation.”
The nominees (in random order):
- Sportplein Emmerhout (municipality of Emmen)
Volunteers organize movement activities for children in a square in the neighborhood. Young people also participate. For example, Julyan (15) supervises the activities every Monday. - Oudejaarsvereniging De Oliebol (municipality of Westerveld)
This association dedicates itself throughout the year to Vledder. They organize activities, visit the sick, and raise money for local associations. - Play4Peace (municipality of Assen)
25 young volunteers, themselves refugees, guide dance and play activities twice a week in the asylum seekers center in the TT hall. - Sweelpop (municipality of Coevorden)
This music festival has been organized entirely by young people for over 40 years. Sweelpop is a concept in the region and brings generations together. - Jeugdcommissie AMDG (municipality of Midden-Drenthe)
Eight young volunteers organize activities throughout the year for the youth of the music association. They are enterprising and a role model for other members.
Support your favorite
From October 20 to November 2, people can vote for their favorite volunteer initiative via the website of the province. The public votes provide a valuable addition to the jurys judgment. On December 11, the winner will be announced by deputy Yvonne Turenhout during the festive award ceremony of The Compliment of Drenthe 2025.
About The Compliment of Drenthe
With The Compliment of Drenthe, the province expresses its appreciation for volunteers who dedicate themselves to their community and gives them the chance to do something extra with 3,000 euros for their association, club, initiative, or organization. This year, special attention is given to the theme of youth (12 to 30 years).
