As of September 10, 2025, registration for the lease lands for 2026 is open. Farmers who want to lease land can register for this through Prolander. The lease conditions for 2026 have been modified in several respects by the provincial executive.
New Conditions for Leasing in 2026
The conditions are updated annually as necessary. For 2026, four adjustments have been made.
- Investigation under the Bibob Act
To prevent the province from inadvertently facilitating criminal activities, it applies the Act on the Promotion of Integrity Assessments by Public Administration (Bibob Act). This may mean that lessees are asked to cooperate with such an investigation. - Soil Research
The province wants to improve soil quality, and research is needed for this. Therefore, we want to be able to conduct soil research on our plots. This will always be done in consultation with the lessee. - Fertilizer Ban
The province has included the possibility of imposing a fertilizer ban on the leased lands. We want that option to help PAS reporters in the area. - Distance Criterion
In order to limit transport distances, the number of fertilizer transports, and traffic movements, and in the interest of improving agricultural structure, the distance criterion is adjusted. An interested party receives more points if the main establishment is within the borders of the province of Drenthe (or a maximum of 20 kilometers outside).
It is not the case that all lease contracts will always apply the mentioned (first three) possibilities. Before the contracts are signed, it is clear to the interested parties whether it applies in that specific case.
Land for Nature Restoration or as Exchange Land
The province owns land in areas within the Nature Network Netherlands (NNN) or outside it. The lands within the NNN are used to achieve the tasks in the rural area. The lands outside the NNN are intended as exchange land. As long as the land is not yet used for those two purposes, we lease the land to farmers.
