Today is a celebration from Groningen to Twente. In the former elephant stable in Emmen, Secretary of State Thierry Aartsen, supported by officials, social organizations, entrepreneurs, and residents, gave the official signal for the next phase of the Nedersaksenlijn. The Nedersaksenlijn, and we decided today: it will happen, said Secretary of State Aartsen.

Henk Jumelet, deputy of the province of Drenthe: “It is a festive day. Because taking this big step today is good news for our residents. When the railway is in place, traveling becomes easier and faster. Young people can choose from more courses, families have more jobs within reach, and entrepreneurs find it easier to find staff and customers. The railway also increases the connection with the rest of the Netherlands, which brings more vitality and perspective to our villages and cities. That is broad prosperity in practice.”

Railway

When it comes to the railway of the Nedersaksenlijn, this phase is called a MIRT exploration. Over the next three years, various studies will be conducted and procedures followed. Residents, social organizations, and businesses will have ample opportunity to participate in discussions and share their opinions in official procedures. The end result of this phase is a preferred decision.

Area Development

One of the goals of the Nedersaksenlijn is to make this region more prosperous in many areas. Therefore, much will happen in a broader area around the stations in the coming years regarding housing, education, economy, and healthcare. A future perspective will also be created for that over the next three years.

A Running Train

If all procedures are followed, the train will run from Groningen to Twente in ten years.
