The province of Drenthe provides a powerful new impetus for companies by extending the Energy Loan Batteries and subsidy scheme Solutions for obstacles due to grid congestion. This supports companies and institutions that are hindered by insufficient capacity on the electricity grid to become more sustainable, expand, or establish themselves.

Subsidy for Smart Solutions

The existing subsidy scheme is being renewed and expanded until mid-2027. Companies and institutions can apply for funds to investigate and implement smart solutions to become more sustainable.

Loan for Battery Storage

In addition to the subsidy, the Energy Fund Drenthe offers an attractive loan for companies that want to store energy. For example, entrepreneurs can store solar energy for later use. Thanks to additional funds, the Energy Fund can help many more companies in the coming years.

Successful Practical Examples

The scheme and loan have been successfully utilized by campsites, football clubs, collectives in business parks, farmers, hospitality businesses, and an HOA. Campsite de Blauwe Haan in Uffelte has been able to realize a smart energy solution thanks to the subsidy scheme. This allowed the campsite to carry out its sustainability plans despite the limited capacity of the electricity grid.

Extension and Expansion

With the decision of the Provincial Executive, the subsidy scheme remains available for new applications. The subsidy ceiling for feasibility studies will be increased by €200,000, and the Energy Fund Drenthe will receive €300,000 to continue offering interest discounts on loans for battery storage. This is expected to help hundreds more companies during this college term. Provincial Executive Member Henk Jumelet: “Grid congestion hinders the sustainability of our economy and the growth of companies. With this scheme, we provide entrepreneurs with a perspective for action. The success of dozens of companies and institutions with this scheme shows that Drenthe companies find creative solutions and that we, as a province, can make a difference by supporting them.”

Addressing Grid Congestion in Drenthe

Grid congestion remains an important issue. As part of the Energy Agenda 2024-2027, the province of Drenthe is working with partners to expand the electricity grid more quickly, better utilize existing capacity, and stimulate flexibility through energy hubs, among other things. With this new impetus, Drenthe continues to actively support companies in the energy transition.
