Today, King Willem-Alexander and Minister Mona Keijzer visited the province of Drenthe. They spoke with residents, home seekers, entrepreneurs, builders, the housing corporation, the project developer, and representatives of governments. At the Acmesa site and in department store Vanderveen, people shared their experiences and concerns about living in Drenthe, including housing shortages.
Living and Working in Drenthe
The province wants to maintain space and quality of life, but also ensure that young people and the elderly find a place here. Therefore, we are focusing in the coming years on 45,000 affordable and sustainable homes: in the city and the region. The discussions also revolved around work, accessibility, and facilities: all factors that determine how attractive Drenthe remains for living and working.
Strong Together with the Region and the State
Central to this visit was the NOVEX Region Groningen-Assen: a collaboration between the State and the region to smartly connect housing construction with employment, mobility, and facilities. Healthy growth is only possible if the State invests in important preconditions such as the Nedersaksenlijn, energy, drinking water, nitrogen space, and strengthening our nature and living environment. Together with the municipality of Assen, the Groningen-Assen region, and the Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning, we showcased the challenges.
Looking Ahead
Deputy Yvonne Turenhout emphasized: “With the support of the State and the strength of our regions, we can contribute to the national housing task and provide our residents with perspective. This way, Drenthe grows in a way that suits us and remains a province where people love to live, work, and thrive.”
