After more than six months of work, the new Drenthe section of the cycling route De Groene As along the Hooidijk is officially in use from Friday, July 25.

The Hooidijk is now designed as a bicycle street between bridge De Punt (Groningerstraat) and the Oosterbroeksebrug. Additionally, the quay has been raised and reinforced along the Noord-Willemskanaal. All asphalt and earthworks have been carried out with zero emissions (without CO₂ emissions) using electric machines.

The cycling route De Groene As is a collaboration between the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen and the municipalities of Assen, Groningen, and Tynaarlo. This direct connection follows the Noord-Willemskanaal and is 27 kilometers long. The route contributes to the accessibility of the Groningen-Assen region, promotes healthy living, and boosts the recreational cycling network along the Drentsche Aa National Park.
