The Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management has formally decided to allocate €200 million for the widening of the A27 between the Zeewolde/Almere exit and junction Eemnes.
Widening A27 important for housing and Defense
People in Flevoland often face traffic jams between the Stichtse Bridge and junction Eemnes. The government is investing €200 million to solve this. This money is needed to make the road safer and improve traffic flow. It is also important for the construction of new homes in the Oosterwold district in Almere. Additionally, Defense is moving to the region, and a good road is needed for that as well.
This plan fits well with the earlier widening of the A27 towards Utrecht and the A1 towards Amersfoort. The national government and the region are now jointly investigating how best to widen the road. They are also looking at what additional steps are needed for the best result.
Besides the major plans for the A27, the national government is providing €29.5 million for several smaller measures on the main road network:
- The realization of the Lelystad-Zuid ring road
- Improvement of junction 11 near Lelystad-Noord
- Addressing junctions 14 and 15 near Emmeloord
Further agreements
Several important amounts have been allocated and agreements made.
National subsidies for accelerated housing construction
At the end of last year, it was decided that the municipalities of Lelystad, Dronten, Noordoostpolder, and Urk would receive subsidies for accelerated housing construction. In total, the national government is paying approximately €52 million to enable the construction of 7,300 additional homes by 2034.
Widening A6 Almere Oostvaarders - Lelystad
The national government is contributing to widening the A6. The amount has been increased to €152.8 million. The project will start once Rijkswaterstaat has enough personnel to carry out the work.
Public transport Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere-Lelystad
To accommodate the growing number of residents in the future, more trains must run on this connection. A new safety system (ERMTS) should make this possible, allowing trains to follow each other more closely. The implementation has been delayed. More clarity about the execution is expected next spring.
Widening Kornwerderzandsluis
With the widening of the Kornwerderzandsluis, larger ships can reach the ports around the IJsselmeer, including Urk and Flevokusthaven. The national government and the provinces of Friesland, Overijssel, and Flevoland are making new agreements about the widening of the lock, new bridges over the lock, deepening of the shipping channels, and salinization of the IJsselmeer.
