Kings Commissioner Arjen Gerritsen paid an official visit to the municipality of Lelystad on Tuesday, November 25. An official visit is one of the ways the commissioner connects with the municipalities in the province. During the visit, the commissioner was updated on the situation in the municipality.

Reception by Mayor Mieke Baltus

The visit began with a warm reception by Mayor Mieke Baltus. After the reception, the commissioner spoke with members of the college of mayor and aldermen. They discussed current issues concerning Lelystad, such as housing construction, safety, and accessibility. They also talked about administrative cooperation with other municipalities and the province.

Discussion with students

A special part of the visit was the discussion with students from Technasium Porteum. They presented their research on social safety in public spaces, with special attention to womens experiences. Their sharp analyses and advice demonstrate the value of actively involving young people in social issues.

Orange the World

The students findings seamlessly connected to the official launch of Orange the World, the campaign against violence towards women, gender inequality, and street harassment. Together with Mayor Baltus, alderman Messelink-Dijkstra, and council member Merel Aktan, the commissioner gave the official start signal of the campaign by illuminating the Lelystad city hall in orange.

Discussion with the municipal council

The visit concluded with a meeting with a delegation of the municipal council. The municipal council, together with the college, maintains political and administrative stability in a special way. The commissioner discussed this with the municipal council.
