On Tuesday, June 30, Platform Ontwerp NL is organizing the new edition of the Day of Design Power. This year they are hosted by the Province of Flevoland and the municipality of Almere. Designers, policymakers, administrators, (private) clients, planners, urban designers, and spatial quality advisors take note: everyone working in the spatial domain on current and future challenges is warmly welcome!
During this annual event, we show how designers help connect spatial problems, social questions, and feasible solutions. The program offers a broad and inspiring view of design practice, including the Mooi Nederland Vitruvius lecture, inspiring masterclasses, excursions, and the festive awarding of the Platform Ontwerp NL trophy.
Theme 2026: Pioneering 2.0
A sustainable future requires a renewed design practice in a complex and vulnerable reality. Challenges around housing, climate adaptation, energy, biodiversity, mobility, and social cohesion must be approached integrally, allowing room for what we do not yet know. The designer is a strategist and connector, with an eye for quality and long-term responsibility. Future thinking has become an indispensable tool.
Almere is the perfect place to hold this conversation. The city, like the rest of Flevoland, literally originated on the drawing board. Over the past 50 years, Almere has grown into an experimental and mature urban landscape that continuously learns and adjusts. At the same time, the Province of Flevoland celebrates its 40th anniversary: a logical reason to reflect on the shared pioneering past and the future we shape together.
Under the motto ‘Together We Make Flevoland,’ the province and municipalities work towards a strong and future-proof region, fully in line with this year’s theme.
