The Executive Board of the Province of Flevoland reacts shocked to the message from network operator TenneT about the threatened connection stop as of July 1. National ambitions in housing, defense, economic growth, and sustainability are under pressure. This underscores the great urgency that the Province of Flevoland, together with the FGU partners, has long been addressing: without concrete, quickly applicable measures, not only our region will come to a standstill, but also the broader development of the Netherlands will be under pressure.
The necessity for measures is now indisputable and urgent
The threatened connection stop shows that the current energy system structurally hinders specific regions - including the FGU region (Flevoland, Gelderland, Utrecht) - in their contribution to national tasks. This affects precisely the area that:
- generates large-scale sustainable electricity;
- is ready to offer local perspective through local deployment of sustainable generation, storage, direct lines, and smart control;
- has been collaborating for some time - government, network operators, and market parties - on concrete solutions that are also applicable to the rest of the Netherlands.
Controllable generation is no longer a topic of discussion but a prerequisite
Alderman Harold Hofstra, portfolio holder Energy: “The threatened connection stop by TenneT is a clear signal: our energy system can no longer keep up with growth and sustainability. That is why we must use the technical solutions already available within Flevoland, such as controllable generation.”
Controllable generation and optimal use of sustainable energy in Flevoland are directly applicable solutions to address grid congestion. The Executive Board of the Province of Flevoland therefore asks the national government to intensify the measures we have jointly established with the network operators in the grid congestion action plan. By focusing on these measures now, we can prevent further deterioration of the situation on the energy grid and again offer perspective to developments in Flevoland and the national ambitions of the Netherlands.
