Within the new Cooperation for Integrated Area Development (SIG) scheme, we have awarded the first subsidy! Agricycling Noordoostpolder receives this financial support.
Deputy Harold Hofstra: “With the awarding of this first SIG subsidy to Agricycling Noordoostpolder, we show that cooperation and innovation go hand in hand in Flevoland. This is a wonderful example of how we collaborate on a sustainable and future-proof countryside, where the strength of our farmers and area partners is fully realized.”
Agricycling Noordoostpolder
How do we arrive at an agricultural model that is fair to the farmer, healthy for the soil, and valuable to society? That is the big question for Agricycling Noordoostpolder. The foundation was established in 2021 and is currently working on five projects. Within these projects, farmers and area partners from the Noordoostpolder collect grass and other cuttings from ditches, canals, and verges. They then process this into a usable raw material for agriculture. The parties make clear agreements about quality beforehand. Two birds with one stone: ditches, canals, and verges are neatly and responsibly maintained, and new, usable raw materials are created. This reduces nutrient runoff into surface water and strengthens and diversifies nature.
About SIG
The SIG scheme is part of the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The scheme stimulates cooperation around themes such as agriculture, climate, biodiversity, water, and soil. The goal is to work together towards a future-proof countryside. Interest in the scheme is high: several applications from Flevoland are still being processed.
More awards are expected soon. More information about SIG can be found on the Common Agricultural Policy page.
