On Friday, November 7, Deputy Toon van Dijk represented the Province of Flevoland in the panel discussion during the European Semiconductor Regions Alliance (ESRA) meeting in Barcelona. During this event, European regions exchanged knowledge about the development of the semiconductor industry and discussed how Europe can strengthen its global position.
Diversity of Regions as Europes Strength
Van Dijk emphasized that Europe does not need to become a copy of Silicon Valley. According to him, Europes strength lies in the diversity of its regions. Each region has its own strengths and unique knowledge. “When we leverage these differences and complement each other, we build a stronger European ecosystem together,” Van Dijk said.
Flevoland Invests in Semiconductor Innovation
Flevoland actively contributes to this. The province invests in new niche developments within the semiconductor sector, including the development of an institute for advanced materials and metrology in Almere. In this initiative, Flevoland collaborates closely with leading knowledge partners such as TNO, IMEC, TU Eindhoven, and TU Twente, as well as companies like ASM and ASML. This collaboration accelerates innovation processes and gives new companies the opportunity to grow.
European Cooperation Accelerates Innovation
ESRA plays an important role in this. The alliance brings European regions together, stimulates knowledge sharing, and helps remove barriers that can slow down scaling innovation. According to Van Dijk, this cooperation is necessary to keep Europe competitive: “Talent, innovation, and collaboration are the keys to success in the global chip industry. Flevoland actively contributes to this with focus, strong partnerships, and concrete results.”
Building a Leading Position for Europe Together
With this commitment, Flevoland aims to contribute to a strong and future-oriented European chip chain. Together with other European regions, we are building an ecosystem that gives Europe a leading position in the global semiconductor industry.
