Agroforestry, the combination of trees and shrubs with agricultural crops or livestock, contributes to the sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in both biomass and soil. This not only supports climate goals but also enhances soil quality, biodiversity, and the resilience of agricultural systems. On Monday, March 9, 2026, Agroforestry Flevoland, in collaboration with the Agroforestry Network Netherlands and the Louis Bolk Institute, is organizing a meeting about the opportunities for carbon valorization within agroforestry.
About the meeting
The meeting will take place from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM at dairy farmer and arable farmer Maarten Burgmans farm at Spieringweg 2 in Dronten. During the meeting, the question of how much CO₂ agroforestry can actually sequester, how this can be measured, and what possibilities exist to financially valorize this sequestration, for example through carbon certificates, will be addressed.
Registration
The meeting is intended for farmers, policymakers, and other stakeholders who want to learn more about the role of carbon in agroforestry. Both starters and experienced entrepreneurs will receive concrete tools to further consider the application of carbon valorization within their business or policy area.
