On Friday, November 14, the regional representatives and crisis partners of Flevoland gathered for the annual Rijksherendag. On this day, they discussed their roles in emergencies and how they can support each other during a crisis.

About the Day

The meeting took place in the Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) building on the MITC site in Marknesse. After a welcome and reception by the NLR, the Commissioner of the King Arjen Gerritsen addressed those present and introduced the theme of the day. Then Marco Zannoni, Director of National Crisis Management at the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security, guided the discussion among attendees about social resilience. The second part of the program included a tour of the MITC site and a visit to the German-Dutch Wind Tunnels (DNW) and their largest wind tunnel in Europe.

Alert and Prepared Together

The regional representatives represent the national government in the provinces and make important decisions during a crisis. The Commissioner of the King plays a coordinating role. He represents the national government and ensures good administrative cooperation between local and regional partners. In special situations, the commissioner can give instructions during major disasters and crises or to the safety region.

A Strong Network Helps

The Rijksherendag contributes to good cooperation so that we are prepared for crisis situations in the future. It helps when people know each other, are well informed, and regularly communicate. Therefore, we invest in a strong network even before a crisis arises. This way, we can act faster and better when it really matters.
