The municipalities of Lelystad, Dronten, Noordoostpolder, and Urk have been granted subsidies to accelerate housing construction. The national government is investing approximately €52 million to enable the realization of 7,300 additional homes by 2034.

Housing construction and traffic safety

Housing is being developed at various locations. In Emmeloord, a total of 700 homes will be built in Emmelhage, Rozenwijk, and on Meldestraat. Therefore, Espelerlaan is being improved to enhance traffic flow and safety, especially for schoolchildren. For the growing Zeeheldenwijk in Urk (876 homes), a solution for traffic safety and flow is needed, with the municipality and province jointly researching a new area access road (Spuiweg). The municipality of Dronten has been granted subsidies for Dronten-Zuid phase 1 (1,100 homes) and Swifterbant-Zuid (757 homes) to safely and soundproof the existing Dronterweg and Biddingweg roads to allow housing construction.

Realization of the first phase of Zuiderhage

In Lelystad, the first phase of Zuiderhage (3,965 homes) can be realized. The national subsidy contributes to the construction of Slenkenpark, connecting the Hollandse Hout nature area to the city. It also supports the realization of a bus lane to Lelystad Centrum station and allows measures on Larserdreef to improve traffic flow to the A6 highway.

Investing in living and life

Province of Flevoland is very pleased with the steps municipalities can now take for the various housing locations. Deputy Ellentrees Müller: “It is extremely important to invest in accessibility and traffic safety in new neighborhoods. In the coming years, we will continue to work with the national government and municipalities towards a society where employment and facilities are easily accessible. We are happy with these steps and enthusiastic about investing in living and life in Flevoland with the future cabinet.”
