Between October 22 and 30, we installed new solar lighting at various bus stops in rural areas. These lampposts charge during the day with sunlight and provide light in the evening and morning. This makes the stops and waiting passengers more visible. The lights turn off between 00:00 and 06:00.
Why new lighting?
Until now, these bus stops were dark because there is no street lighting in rural areas. Travelers often had to wait or get off in the dark. This is unsafe for travelers and also difficult for bus drivers.
After a trial at the Kraggenburg and Picknickplaats bus stops, we selected six stops where many people travel daily:
- Biddinghuizen Bremerbergweg, stop Bremerbergweg: direction Harderwijk
- Biddinghuizen Bremerbergweg, stop Alikruikweg: direction Dronten and direction Harderwijk
- Marknesse Marknesserweg, stop Luttelgeesterweg: direction Emmeloord and direction Marknesse
- Tollebeek Urkerweg, stop Urkerweg 34: direction Urk and direction Emmeloord
- Marknesse Repelweg, stop Voorsterweg: direction Vollenhove and direction Marknesse
- Zeewolde, Slingerweg, stop Flevo-Nat/Wielseweg: direction Almere
We are investing over €100,000 for this. Other stops without lighting, where few or no travelers board, are excluded from this project. For new stops, we first check if we can connect the lighting to existing street lighting. If that is not possible, we use sustainable solar lighting.
