The unique rural area of Flevoland is under pressure due to complex issues. Think of intensive land and water use, climate change, soil subsidence, and salinization. These challenges require a joint approach. That is why on Thursday, December 4, together with six Flevoland municipalities, Staatsbosbeheer, Waterschap Zuiderzeeland, nine agricultural organizations, and land management organizations, we signed a declaration of intent.
With the signing of this declaration, the parties take a first step towards a joint future. This expresses our commitment to work together on a future-proof rural area where agriculture, nature, water, soil, climate, and livability go hand in hand.
Deputy Klopman emphasizes: “With this declaration, we combine our forces to tackle the major challenges in the rural area together. Only by working together can we realize the ambitions for a future-proof Flevoland.” Also, Deputy Hofstra and Deputy Simonse underline the importance of joint responsibility for achieving the goals.
What does this mean for Flevoland?
With the signing of this declaration, we take a first step towards a joint implementation agenda. During the execution, we will jointly determine which follow-up steps are necessary. We take into account the uniqueness of Flevoland and the strength of its agriculture and nature.
What happens next?
After signing, we will work together on a joint implementation agenda with concrete projects and measures. A governance meeting will be held where further agreements are made. We want to work together to strengthen initiatives from co-governments, agriculture, social organizations, residents, and entrepreneurs. It will remain possible for everyone to join during the process.
