How many species of plants and animals live in National Park Nieuw Land? This year, we will discover it together! The national park is organizing Species Year 2026: a year-long search for all living things in this unique natural area. Join us and help map the biodiversity of Nieuw Land even better.
Five years ago, the national park organized Species Year 2021. At that time, we counted no less than 3,281 species: birds, plants, mushrooms, and moths. Will we break that record this year?
How does it work?
- Register online as an observer here
- Enter your findings on our special Bioblitz page or via the ObsIdentify app
You can explore the area yourself or participate in excursions and inventories with experts and students from Aeres University of Applied Sciences.
Why participate?
National Park Nieuw Land is a special nature reserve, man-made and a world-class bird paradise. Here you will find the Oostvaardersplassen, Lepelaarplassen, Marker Wadden, and the Markermeer. By registering species together, we better map biodiversity and contribute to nature management and research.
