The medal was sent with an accompanying letter from the Kings Commissioner Daniël Wigboldus and Deputy Peter Drenth. We give this tangible appreciation with the awareness that we have lived in freedom for 80 years. Because freedom is not a given!

Gelderland and Defense: a Close Bond Over the Years
Gelderland veterans have a special place in our Gelderland society. Gelderland is a province with a rich military tradition and a long-standing, close bond with Defense. With barracks and training grounds on, among others, the Veluwe, Defense is strongly connected to our province.
Design of the Medal
This medal was specially designed in the context of 80 years of freedom. On the front of the Gelderland veterans medal is the coat of arms of Gelderland.
On the back is the outline of the province of Gelderland with ‘De Zwaardschede’ in a V-shape, which stands for Veteran, Peace and Security.
The honorary medal is a tangible recognition for the commitment of veterans to society.
