In the weekend of August 22 and 23, 2025, the Nettelhorster Bridge was successfully floated into Lochem and placed in its final position. You can watch the entire operation in this timelapse.
First, the 1750-ton bridge was transported with special vehicles to the Twente Canal, after which it was placed in the correct position using heavy pontoons. The bridge is 134 meters long and now spans the Twente Canal. The placement marks a significant step in the N346 Schakel Achterhoek-A1 project. The operation with heavy equipment attracted a lot of attention and was also followed by many interested parties via the livestream.
With the placement, the final phase of the project begins: the finishing of the bridge. This will take several more months. As soon as we know when the bridge can be opened, we will let you know.
