By producing less waste, wasting as little food as possible, and working more circularly, we keep Gelderland clean and green. During the Waste-Free Week from September 8 to 14, 2025, we pay extra attention to this.

Everyone can participate

On average, we waste about 33 kilos per person per year on food. That amounts to 23 million meals per week for the whole of the Netherlands! There is still much to gain in the area of food waste. The foundation Together Against Food Waste therefore organizes the Waste-Free Week. During this week, governments, entrepreneurs (think of supermarkets, catering, and restaurants), schools, and municipalities are encouraged to not throw away food for a week. Their customers, guests, students, and residents also participate. You too?

Focus on Expiration Date

Everyone can contribute to a more sustainable, responsible food system with less food waste. Both at home and in your business. Among consumers, 10% of food waste is related to expiration dates. This year, this is an important theme during the upcoming Waste-Free Week. By sharing clearer information on how consumers should handle expiration dates, we can save about 90 million kilos of food each year.

A Look Into Our Kitchen

In addition to supporting this week, our company restaurant is also actively participating. The chefs make croutons from old bread, prepare toasties with bread that would otherwise be thrown away, use leftover rice in our tomato soup, and fill our sandwiches with cold cuts that are close to their expiration date. This way, our food gets a tasty second life.
