Colleagues are participating and helping
4 days of walking 30, 40, or 50 kilometers in the Waal city and the beautiful (Gelderland) surroundings is what participants of the 4Daagse can expect. Our deputy Helga Witjes will start the 30-kilometer walk on Tuesday, July 15. Our Kings Commissioner, Daniel Wigboldus, will have already started. He is one of the participants of the 40 kilometers. In addition to the commissioner, a team of more than 30 colleagues will also participate this year. They can be recognized by the white Province of Gelderland shirts. To support the participants, other colleagues will provide a rest point along the route every day. In Elst (Tuesday), Wijchen (Wednesday), Groesbeek (Thursday), and Malden (Friday), walkers can recharge at the Province of Gelderlands care tent along the route.
The routes of the 4Daagse pass several Gelderland provincial roads. These are:
- N836
- N324
- N845
- N847
- N841
- N843
- N844
- N271.
We ensure that the 4Daagse participants can walk here safely by placing road closures. After the walkers pass through, the roads are cleaned and the road closures are removed. After this, traffic can use these roads smoothly and safely again.
Volunteers are worth their weight in gold
We believe it is important that there are sports events like the 4Daagse in Gelderland. Sports are healthy, bring people together, and provide enjoyment. Events ensure that Gelderland is vibrant. They make Gelderland an attractive province to live, work, do business, and enjoy oneself. That is why we contribute and are a sponsor of the event. Together with the 4Daagse organization, we use this sponsorship to highlight the hundreds of 4Daagse volunteers. Because without volunteers, there is no 4Daagse.
Four Days Festival
In addition to the walking event, the traditional Four Days Festival also takes place in Nijmegen. Through our Circular Economy program, we support this event with the project “Four Days Festival: circular and sustainable.” This helps us further make this event sustainable. By informing, communicating, and monitoring, we help change the behavior of participating entrepreneurs and visitors, with the following goals:
- a sustainable food offering: more vegetarian and plant-based
- reducing waste
- knowledge sharing with other (Gelderland) events
Enjoying Gelderland
With the unique atmosphere created by all those walkers and cheers along the routes, the 4Daagse may well be the most beautiful sporting event held annually in our province. Walking is healthy and you are outdoors. And where better to walk than in Gelderland? The province with the most beautiful (walking) areas! I look forward to congratulating all those walkers on the Via Gladiola in Nijmegen for completing the 4Daagse: a fantastic achievement!
