Gelderland Value Ring

The Gelderland Value Ring is an award for individuals who are particularly committed to bringing citizens and farmers closer together. There were 45 nominees in 3 categories: culinary connector, education hero, and innovative food entrepreneur.

The nominees included a farmer, baker, chef, officials, or simply passionate volunteers. Check an overview of the nominees on our website

Nel Schellekens from Het Keunenhuis in Winterswijk

Nel Schellekens received the Value Ring in the culinary connector category. She manages the monumental Keunenhuis on an estate near Winterswijk.

The jury: “In her culinary testing ground, Nel experiments extensively with her vision of from nose to tail, 0% waste is 100% taste. This includes questions like why do we eat this or that? and what do we do with the waste? Anyone who sits down with Nel hears the whole story: about the origin of the product, the product itself, the soil it grows on, and the maker.”

Marga Kroezen from De Grote Kroeze in Silvolde

Marga Kroezen receives the Value Ring in the education hero category. Marga is a dairy farmer in daily life, but she is very committed to farm education.

The jury: “As a vegetable garden coach and cooking teacher, she knows how to inspire young and old for healthy food and locally grown produce. What makes her special is that she widely shares the story of agriculture through social media, collaborations, and the many educational activities she organizes. This not only puts her own business but also the entire sector in a positive light.”

Jeroen Robbers from De Terp Squashpackers in Erichem

Jeroen Robbers receives the Value Ring in the innovative food entrepreneur category. Starting as a small gardener, his pumpkin business grew into a company that has everything in-house and exports throughout Europe.

The jury: “This specialist in organic pumpkins with his own packaging line delivers his products completely plastic-free, compostable, and biobased packaged. What is particularly appealing is the combination of sustainability and innovation. In the companys vision, care for the environment and the well-being of people is central, above profit maximization.”

Winners Jeroen Robbers and Marga Kroezen were present in the room, while Nel Schellekens received the award via video connection.

The Week of Our Food

The awarding of the Value Rings is part of the Week of Our Food. During this week, we pause with partners to reflect on the origin of food. Various activities are organized to familiarize Gelderland residents with the makers of our food. During the Week of Our Food, we collaborate with LTO Noord, Jong Leren Eten, the cooperative Van Onze Grond, the Zone College, and the national organization of the Dutch Food Week.
