Together with ProDemos we offer a free course for anyone considering becoming politically active. In 5 evenings you will learn about the decision-making of the province and the different roles and tasks of Provincial States. The course starts on Monday, October 27, 2025.

From the basics of democracy to distributing money

Each evening covers a different topic. Together they provide a good picture of how the province works. All meetings are from 19:30 to 22:00 at the House of the Province (Market 11, 6811 CG) in Arnhem: 

  • Meeting 1 (October 27): Introduction and acquaintance 
    How is the Netherlands governed? What is the role of the province in this? And how does it work with elections and political parties? 
  • Meeting 2 (November 10): The province and Provincial States 
    How does the province work? What does the decision-making look like? And how can that decision-making be influenced? What are the tasks and roles of Provincial States? And what can a member of the States do to exert influence? 
  • Meeting 3 (November 24): Finances and speed dating 
    What do the finances of the province look like? Where does the money come from and where does it go? And additionally: get to know the parties that are currently in Provincial States. 
  • Meeting 4 (December 8): Debate training 
    How do you speak convincingly? And how do you communicate a position strongly? 
  • Meeting 5 (December 10): Public gallery 
    You will attend a meeting of the Provincial States to see how politicians work. 

Politically Active is free and for everyone 

Politically Active is suitable for every Gelderlander who is not yet active in politics but wants to be. Education and background are not important.
