On September 17, 2025, leaders from municipalities, water boards, and provinces signed a cooperation agreement for the development of the Garderen, Elspeet, Uddel, and Speuld (GEUS) area. This will ensure a good balance between agriculture, nature, housing, and leisure.

Together with residents and entrepreneurs 

What is special about the area plan for GEUS in the northern Veluwe is that it has been created together with residents, entrepreneurs, and organizations. Subsequently, we and the municipalities of Apeldoorn, Barneveld, Ermelo, and Nunspeet, Water Board Vallei and Veluwe established the GEUS area plan. Now that the plan has been signed, implementation can begin.  

Less nitrogen 

It involves projects for: 

  • affordable housing for young people and the elderly 
  • future for farmers 
  • more biodiversity and better water quality 
  • 42 percent less nitrogen emissions 

We made an exception for the GEUS area in our plans for nitrogen strips around the Veluwe. This gives the area the space to make progress on its own.  

Tailored solutions and support 

For the implementation of this plan, we work together with residents, entrepreneurs, and other partners. GEUS is thus a good example of area development with tailored solutions and support.
