Do you understand what is written? What do you think of the content and the choices? Come to a meeting near you in October or November 2025 or to the online meeting. We will tell you what we are working on and would love to hear what you think. The Provincial States (PS) will ultimately decide on the spatial vision and these choices. With your input, PS can make a good assessment.
What are the 7 choices?

- Choice 3: Providing direction for tasks in the rural area
- Choice 4: Directing towards a future-proof energy system
- Choice 5: Directing towards accessibility for defense, goods flows, and urbanization
- Choice 6: Directing towards conditions for the economy
- Choice 7: Providing direction for an attractive living environment
Read more in the State letter Spatial choices spatial vision. In this State letter, you can read a summary of 1 paragraph for each choice.
The choices are further elaborated in appendix 1 – elaboration of spatial choices spatial vision, with a map for each choice that provides insight into the spatial consequences of the choice.
In appendix 2, the maps of the 7 choices have been combined into 1 integration sketch. (This document contains the Choice direction participation spatial vision Gelderland 2050 three times. These maps are the same, but the layout and design of the poster differ. The explanation of the choices and thus this map can be found in appendix 1). During the participation meetings, you can also ask your questions and we will explain the maps.
Why these choices?
At the beginning of 2025, the Provincial States adopted the framework note. With the framework note, we determined the direction of our spatial vision. It outlines our values, guiding principles, and 3 major developments towards 2050. Our values are: stewardship, broad prosperity, livability, and regional identity and cultural quality. Our guiding principles are: careful land use, water and soil, accessibility, and energy.
The 3 developments are:
- A vital rural area
- Strong cities, villages, and regions
- A future-proof economy with suitable networks
These 3 developments together describe the future of Gelderland. Based on this, we are further developing the spatial vision. A large part of the framework note can be immediately elaborated, but there are 7 spatial choices that we want to test first before further elaborating them. These choices require extra attention due to their impact and the necessary policy changes.
