Think of themes such as energy, water, food, and nature. But also how these themes are interconnected. In this experiment, we bring practice and policy together. For example, by building a model (a small representation of, for example, a building or other design) that shows what a beautiful solution could be for a specific location. Or how a certain location can be arranged differently or more sustainably.
Getting started together
The Ministry of Making! organizes workshops, discussions, and an exhibition on our behalf (Ruimtelab). Together with residents, experts, civil servants, companies, and designers, we turn good ideas and examples into real plans that we can implement in Gelderland. Everyone contributes a piece of the puzzle.
This approach centers on building the future of Gelderland together on-site. This yields useful insights, new networks, and inspiring examples of projects that are already going well – and shows how it can also be done differently or better. In the coming months, we will actively collaborate with various partners. There will be workshops, public presentations, and discussions. We call on architects and designers to make solutions visible and tangible. This way, people get a glimpse of what the future could look like.
For this project, the Ministry of Making! and our Ruimtelab collaborate with cultural and social partners from the Gelderland regions, innovative developers, and others. The architecture platform CASA from Arnhem facilitates the discussions. The results will be displayed in an exhibition at the Huis der Provincie in Arnhem in the autumn of 2026.
Ruimtelab college September 9, 2025
During the Ruimtelab college on September 9, 2025, we will take off flying. The Ministry of Making! will present the groups and locations they will be working on. And you will discover how and when you can participate. There will be multiple workshops, design studios, discussions, and an exhibition around the themes of energy, water, food, and nature. The housing challenge plays an important role in all studios. The studios will take place at locations that fit the themes. Will you be there too?About Ruimtelab
The arrangement of Gelderland is not only a task of the government. We make space together. Therefore, we also gather knowledge and ideas from others: the creative sector, companies, knowledge institutions, and residents. In our Ruimtelab, we search together for solutions that we might not have thought of ourselves. That is why we asked the Ministry of Making! to participate in this collaboration.
About the Ministry of Making!
This is an independent platform for the major challenges of our time. It was founded in 2022 by ZUS, MANN, and the IABR. The Ministry of Making! works on solutions for societal problems such as housing shortages, the energy transition, and climate change. They work from imagination, courage, and space for collaboration. They focus on doing, sharing knowledge, and making ideas visible. In this way, they invite people to participate.
