Activities

The Nettelhorster Bridge will be transported over the Twentekanaal using large pontoons. This is called the insertion of the bridge. The bridge will then rest on the support points (land heads). For this insertion operation, construction company BAM is hiring special equipment and professionals. The insertion operation will take 2 days.

Schedule

Due to bad weather conditions, the insertion in June did not take place. Together with Rijkswaterstaat, it has been agreed that the bridge will be positioned between August 22 and September 5, 2025. If the weather is bad again on August 22/23, there will be several opportunities in the following 2 weeks to carry out the work. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated as soon as possible.

Watch via Webcam

The insertion of the bridge is very slow. Therefore, we will place a webcam. The public can also view the insertion of the Nettelhorster Bridge from home via the webcam images. One day before the insertion operation begins, the link will be available on the provinces webpage: https://www.gelderland.nl/N346.

Timelapse

The insertion moment will be recorded on video (timelapse). These video images will be shared in the days after the insertion via the provincial social media and website.

Viewing Spot

In addition to the webcam, there will be a viewing spot along the Stationsweg during the insertion moment to watch the insertion during the day. The viewing spot along the Stationsweg is accessible via the new stairs near the Lochem Bridge. For cyclists and people with disabilities, this is accessible via the Ampsense Knot, the new bike path to the station.

The province and municipality of Lochem call on interested parties to come to the viewing spot by bike or on foot. The number of parking spaces at the train station and the town hall is very limited.

Traffic Diversion and No Shipping Possible

The Lochem Bridge will be closed to motorized traffic during the insertion operation. The bridge will remain accessible to cyclists and pedestrians. Traffic will be diverted via Hanzeweg, Rondweg-West, and the Exelsebrug. The companies on Kwinkweerd will remain accessible via the intersection with Rengersweg. During the insertion, the Twentekanaal will be closed to shipping.

Whats Next

After the bridge is in place, construction company BAM will take care of the further completion of the bridge. The provincial road will then be connected to the bridge on both sides. It is not yet known when the Nettelhorster Bridge will be opened to motor traffic. As soon as there is more news about this, we will announce it.
